In my previous life, my hair would not grow. My nails were deeply ridged. My teeth were subject to deep decay. Malnutrition shows up differently for different people. I made a choice, over four years ago, to choose food over medication to deal with my chronic anxiety, seasonal affective disorder, insomnia, listlessness, pain, and chronic skin issues. I bet you anything that I was developing thyroid issues, like many women do when they’ve gone through the strain of multiple pregnancies and extended breastfeeding, combined with severe sleep depreciation.
Within two weeks of my first Whole30 , I knew that I’d been denying a truth – there foods I was consuming that were creating such deep inflammation all over my body that I was not absorbing nutrients from my food. Once I removed grains, legumes, dairy, sugar and alcohol from my diet, the results were almost immediate. It was like someone changed my batteries. I came back to life! I had energy, I could sleep, my skin cleared up, my belly flattened.
And now…I have a full head of hair that I will cherish and never take for granted. It is my personal testament to the power of consistency, continuity, strength of conviction, and a deep-seated belief in my body’s ability to heal itself, from the inside out.
It took way more than 30 days to reverse my malnutrition to the point where my hair could grow, but it only took two weeks for me to really and truly GET it.
Do yourself a favour and give the Whole30 a shot. You have nothing to lose, and hair, teeth, skin, good mood, and sleep to gain.
